How is this different from the $5-$6 blocks in drug stores and airports?

Quality. Most charging adapters (cubes, blocks, etc.) you can get at Walgreens, CVS, or at an airport or grocery store check-out line are cheap, phony, quality adapters that don’t put out a good amount of speed for charging and THEY WILL fail after a short period of time. When you purchase this (Apple) adapter, not only is it of better quality, but the “12W” means it puts out more power, therefore charges your device faster and more efficiently. It doesn’t even matter if you have an iPhone, iPad, galaxy note 7 edge, or an amazon kindle. It is universal for any USB chargers. But in the end, I would rather spend the extra $6-$10 for an apple quality adapter rather then buy 3 of the charger adapters you’re referring to and having them break down on you when you run to your hotel room to get a quick charge and failing on you when you need it. Sorry for being a tl;dr, but I hope that gets my point across.

P.S. it’s a good idea to stock up on these, cause as you get new devices, such as iPhones 5- at least 7 plus, you get cheap ass 5w adapters (thank you apple for giving us bare minimum to get by). They’ll last long, and they are good quality, but 5w vs. 12w is nothing (not really, but as an 18yr old who doesn’t want to sit around all day waiting for my iPhone to reach a good 80%, it seems like it).

12w is for iPad, 5w is for iPhone & iPod. Swap either way and you shorten the battery life, resulting in early replacement.

I've been overwhelmed with confusion trying to figure out if it's Apple OEM or not.. soooo I went to Apple website and found this Native Union Belt XL 10 cable for sale and under WARRANTY here's what I found:  Part Number Mfr. Part Number: BEL-L-ZEB-3 UPC or EAN No.: 846654011203 Warranty Note: Products sold through this website that do not bear the Apple Brand name are serviced and supported exclusively by their manufacturers in accordance with terms and conditions packaged with the products. Apple's Limited Warranty does not apply to products that are not Apple-branded, even if packaged or sold with Apple products. Please contact the manufacturer directly for technical support and customer service...My Point is that just because it came in an apple box doesn't mean it's apple and for sure is not covered under their warranty.  Yes, there are knock-offs out there and yes, made in China in Apple boxes may not be an Apple product.  Just because Apple contracted with other venders, doesn't ensure that Apple oversees their production and therefore, willing to warranty it.  The pictures do help, I believe, but not always...I   researched deeper because all of my chargers purchased through Apple and came in Apple boxes and I assumed manufactured by Apple right here in the USA, but did not have the Apple Logo...now I know why.

This item does not include a cord. It plugs directly into an electrical outlet and has a port for a USB cord on the opposite side. You supply the USB cord connection to your iPad/iPod/iPhone.
