Overpriced but worth it

Plastic tray's are temporary, they eventually break, are generally bad for us/environment and the list goes on the cons. Plastic has basically no pros and only cons. This ice tray on the other hand is plastic-free and you simply need to only wait about 4-5 minutes before releasing the handle. I see this as a long-term investment and I'm hoping it will last years. I do think it's priced a little high, 50$ for an ice tray but it is what it is. It does it's job and I have no issues so far.

Good quality stainless steel ice cube tray

I bought this stainless steel ice cube tray a while ago, but I waited to review it until I had used it a few times. It works perfectly if you follow the simple directions on the box from the manufacturer: push the handle down before placing it in the empty tray, only fill the ice cube tray halfway up with water, and let the tray sit out on your counter, sink, etc. for a few minutes (waiting 5 minutes worked best for me) before trying to lift the handle to separate and loosen the ice cubes. When I followed all of these steps, the handle was easy to lift up (it's also very sturdy) and the ice cubes separated easily.I had always used plastic ice cube trays before I bought this stainless steel one, but I became concerned about freezing any kind of food, beverage, etc. in plastic because the chemicals leach into the food, water, etc. over time. That said, this is the first stainless steel ice cube tray I have ever tried, and I found it fairly easy to use. It is also easy to wash: I washed it in hot, soapy water (I don't have a dish washer). I have seen no signs of rust at all. Highly recommended!

I have a love/hate relationship with this thing

I love that it's steel and that I feel like I'm reducing my exposure to micro plastics. But dude, the amount of patience you need to make a batch of ice is taxing my relationship with beverages. There may be a design flaw here - the bottom of the tray is not truly flat, but is concave and seems to be getting worse over time. I've tried to gently hammer it back flat but it never stays. So the tray creates a thick solid sheet of ice, which binds all the ice cubes together like the One Ring of Sauron, and interferes with the release mechanism. And by interfere, I mean that Andre the Giant couldn't break this ice apart - until - I wait about 10 minutes for the ice to start to melt, and then I get the handle to break the ice properly into cubes. Sometimes I lose my patience because I just absolutely must have a cold drink at that very moment, and I don't wait the whole ten minutes and muscle the handle up, and I do ultimately get ice. Not cubes however, but a shattered mess of ice shards. My buddy says crushed ice is a luxury feature on some refrigerators, so maybe I'm just being a baby.

save the environment in style

Great way to reduce plastic use and still stay practical. I was worried this was going to be too cold to touch or difficult to handle but it works so smoothly. Love the rhomboid ice cubes and my fingers didn't even get cold (or stuck) using it. Froze relatively fast, the tray itself is rather lightweight but feels very strong. Great for freezing fruit and other things into the ice, because you can remove the parts of the tray and really clean them well. Also like that unlike plastic trays it doesn't warp, so it stays flat in the freezer - no worry about water spilling over the edge when you place it in the freezer.

Follow the directions

It works great. Fill half full; remove from freezer when frozen; set kitchen timer for 5 minutes, lift and remove contents. Not excited about the fact that it's made in China, but as long as it doesn't rust and keeps working, I find it much better than using plastic. We get enough plastic in everything else.

Save your cash.

Product out of the box looked impressive. It seemed to be well made. However, after making six batches of cubes the handle bent and one of the metal components of the cube frame broke.I was hesitant to spend the amount of money on the item and now wish that I didn’t.

Great ice cube mold that just requires a little patience.

I just got throw mold last night and put it straight to use. I plan on just popping the ice vibes out and putting them in a freezer bowl for easy accrues and so I always have a rotation of ice. This worked great. If you require instant gratification of being able to wrench on an ice cube tray and ice pops right out this product is not for you. It takes some patience. As when you pull it out of the freezer you can run it under cold water to speed up the thawing by process, but then just let time do it’s job to thaw it just enough for the lever to get some wiggle room. Then the ice pops out a little at a time. The cubes in the middle will need a little more time as they’re surrounded by the other cubes. I used two fingers to lift the lever and checked it periodically over a five minute period as I futzed around the kitchen. Voila. A bowl of ice. The mold and frame seems sturdy and like it will hold up well over time. If that changes I’ll update my review. So far it’s exactly what I wanted.
