Perfect fit for my 1998 BMW 540i 6 speed
Pay attention to the caution that says DO NOT OPERATE THE WINDOW REGULATOR WITHOUT THE WINDOW GLASS IN PLACE. You can really screw the mechanism up. Not difficult to change and it will save you about $600 to $1000 if you take it to a shop or BMW.

Product works perfectly for 2000 BMW E39 540i
Not that easy to install, but that's BMW's fault. Once I got it in, it worked very well at a fraction of the cost of the OEM replacement.

This is not a quality product to install in a BMW 5 Series, and can lead to an easy break in
I purchased the front passenger regulator and motor less than one year ago and it failed two weeks ago on Sunday June 14th 2020. I can get a written statement to that effect from the repair shop that helped Me take the door panel off to slide the passenger window back up into place after the cable broke and the window fell to the bottom of the door. The regulator was installed in mid September of 2019 and the car was hardly driven (less than 2,000 miles) as it is not My daily driver. Keeping that low mileage in mind, and the fact that I am normally the only one in the car, the passenger window is not used that often. I use the right rear passenger window, or the sunroof for additional air ventilation.I purchased the two front regulators with the Amazon 3 year Insurance plan, but for this to happen so soon is very disappointing as it is a technical and timely job to correctly remove and replace all of the three different types of factory screws securing the regulator in place, BMW seems to not want DIY's working on their machines, as they use Torx, Hex, and Metric head machine screws/bolts of similar size to hold it in place. You unscrew one set, go to the next and You need another tool, You continue, and find that You will need another tool to successfully continue and complete the disassembly. It is a real patience tester. I happened to wander into a German Repair Shop in Goleta Ca., and observed the frustration of a Mechanic working to remove a driver's side regulator on a Newer series Volkswagen Bug. This fellow was not enthused by what he was going through on this vehicle. Seems to be a common theme. I need to be able to purchase a quality product from Amazon & have it last.A product that fails in less than one year on a window that does not regularly get opened on a vehicle that is driven no more than 5,000 miles annually is just not acceptable! I feel that this seller should be removed as a seller on Amazon because the remarks reflect a non-caring attitude, or any feeling for what actually happens when these regulators fail. I mine dropped after being opened a quarter of the window travel as it was necessary to see how close I was to the other car parked in the garage at night. I had to leave to be in Santa Barbara the next morning and could not drive the nearly 100 miles with the window all the way down in the door.Amazon please think about the buyers and owners of the 5 series BMW's and the problems these failures cause. a non-functioning regulator means that the car cannot be securely locked and is just a push on the window for access to a thief.Thank You for your consideration

Fits, but beware...
This regulator assembly fits well and is working at the time of install. I will update this review if I feel that it failed prematurely. It DID include a motor, pre-installed, despite the product listing saying it came without one.If you are going to use one of these, be careful. The included hardware is garbage. I installed mine as it came out of the box and had to remove and reinstall it after the junk hardware stripped out. They use soft phillips head screws where the originals were higher-quality torx screws or hex-head. Fortunately I was able to scavenge the hardware off the failed assembly I replaced.I had to reuse both of the plastic window limiters due to the new ones having their junk phillips hardware being torqued in so hard that I could not loosen them for adjustment. I had to destroy them to get them out for replacement. If I had know about these problems up front, I would have scavenged the old hardware right away and saved myself a bunch of time.
