Expert Advisor Programming for MetaTrader 4: Creating automated trading systems in the MQL4 language

I've had this book for over a year now but I've only just realised that I've never been back here to say how good it is. This book and the associated files have taken me from complete beginner to competent EA and indicator coder. OK, so my code isn't the most compact or efficient but with a bit of effort I've been able to achieve everything I've needed to. The basic EA shell provided with the book is suitable for most strategies and contains the most common features to get you going. The author takes you through from the basics of code structure all the way through each code block and function in detail so you're left with a great understanding of how everything works and fits together.

Exactly want I wanted to start my MT4 education.Starts with basics and gradually create the building blocks to have a versilte code with key functions discuss and plenty of code to follow.There is also online zip file containing code used in the book to allow you to have access to the full code file.There is also a document highlighting acouple of errors in book...but the code files appear to have been corrected (March'16)Recommend it.(Ps be aware there is MT5 book as well....you decide which offers want you think you want....platform provider offers....)

It's not a bad book on an absolute basis; there was a lot of information. But so far, it hasn't been helping me with coding at all. The basic of programming covered in this book is not extensive enough to get one up and going. So I ended up learning coding from another proper free online course in a different language. And that's how I picked up coding to get me started. Then, when I wanted to find commands / or clarification about how to use anything, everything is much clearer and more concise and helpful on MQL4.com, which you can access for free.

A good book for anyone interested in writing their own expert advisors. There is a lot of introduction material in the book, which can be helpful for non-programmers.

The author based the book in his own class of functions, leaving the reader with little knowledge of how to program MQ4 expert advisor in native MQ4.22nd June 2017 update, after trying to use this book to write my on EA's I have realised there are bugs in the include files and the block timer code as downloaded from the website is broken in several lines of code in more than one file.If you want to learn to debug code this is the book for you. How the author has the audacity to claim copyright on this broken code is disgusting. If you look at the book then check the code downloaded not even the variable names match up.

This is a great intro to the area. There is a little on creating indicators but this is primarily about EAs.
