This is a film that requires a brain to fully enjoy. Although I like the transporter movies and other brainless action films, every now and then a very good "brain" film comes along to do the impossible-i.e. wake up the brain cells;be entertaining; generate suspense.Some films try to do this and end up pretentious twaddle.But this one is successful.A heavily decorated former Army helicopter pilot who remembers flying his comrades into battle in the Afghan War,"wakes up" with a lurch on a commuter train in the USA.He is seated opposite a "girl next door" type of young woman who is talking to him as though she knows him.But he doesn't know who she is;where he is; and what the hell is going on. He sees his reflection in the train's window briefly and gets a shock, causing him to go to the toilet to verify what he thinks he saw.Peeking into the mirror in the toilet he sees another man i.e. someone who does not look at all like he thinks he does.In his pockets he finds the man's picture and i.d. and these confirm that the individual on the i.d. is not him.What is going on? Gradually, as the girl chitchats wondering if he is feeling ok,he looks at his new environment which is soon rocked by a gigantic explosion killing the passengers on the train. But he "wakes up" in an altogether different place talking to a military officer who questions him about the bomb on the train.As things are slowly revealed, he is told that he is being "sent" onto the train to find out and neutralise the bomber who is threatening an even bigger explosion with a nuclear device in a major city.The train bomb is just the distraction for the more important device.His mission is to find the bomber and prevent the second device from ever being used even it means sacrificing the train.But, he only has an 8 minute window to achieve this before the train bomb blows.Every time he tries he finds out something more until inevitably the bomb goes off. But they are able to send him back for a few tries.Of course he is also trying to find out why him?The story is very good and challenging.Some clues are dropped in here and there,and there are twists and shocks about who he is and how he got to be doing this which he eventually discovers. This is not like other films, and it merits close attention.

I first saw this film on a plane journey back to the UK on 10th August and I liked it so much, I bought the DVD when it came out over here. If you liked KNOWING with Nicolas Cage and NEXT (also with Nicolas Cage) then I believe you will like this film. Source Code begins with US Army Helicopter Pilot Captain Colter Stevens (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) waking up on a train to Chicago. Opposite him is a beautiful girl who begins talking with him as if they have known each other for some time. Captain Stevens does not know the girl or what is going on as his last memory is flying wounded members of his "crew" out of a hot zone in Kanderhar in Afghanistan. As Captain Stevens tries to work out what is going on, exactly eight minutes later, the train explodes in a huge fireball, the result of a terrorist bomb, killing all on board - or so it would seem. The next thing we see is Captain Stevens alive, awake and in some kind of capsule where he is being debriefed by a female US Army officer. Colter Stevens learns that he is on a mission to find out where the bomb is and who planted it. He learns that the tragedy has already happened and the people he saw on the train are already dead. But thanks to a powerful and untested new Military sanctioned programme which relies heavily on the scientific fact that after death the brain does not die right away but can collect and retain information about events for up to eight minutes after the body's death, Colter Stevens is the man who is somehow sent into the eight minute scenario on the train, in successive attempts, as the action happens, with orders to find out who the bomber is so that the authorities can take him down after the event. This powerful thriller is full of good special effects, great performances by the characters involved and a big plot twist right at the end. Having seen the US version of this film, the UK DVD version so very nearly mucks up this twist around the end of the film, but it survives enough for it to work. If I'm honest, one of my big hates in the film and DVD world is the need by film marketers to release a different and often edited version of the film dependant on the target country it is going to! I really enjoyed this film, considering I do not routinely watch films on aeroplanes! If you want a white knuckle ride and a chance to enjoy a good, familiar storyline but with a very different take, then this film is for you! (reviewed 21st August 2011 by Lee James)

Moon [DVD] [2009 ] director Duncan Jones brings another bit of science fiction to our screen, in a movie that asks: what would you do if you had eight minutes left to live? Army Captain Coulter Stevens suddenly finds himself in the body of a stranger. Talking to a lady. On a train heading into chicago. His efforts to find what's happening are cut short when the train is completely destroyed in an explosion. And then he finds himself inside a metal tank, with a lady airforce captain on a screen giving him orders. Then he's back on the train. Going through it all again. It quickly becomes revealed to him that he's taking part in an experiment using something called source code. Which - via a bit of quantum physics and some other pretty plausible science - allows him to view past time via the body of another person. The train was destroyed in a terrorist attack and the attacker is threatening to let of an even bigger device in Chicago. Stevens has to find the bomber in time to same millions of lives. Only trouble is: he has nothing to go on. He starts to like christina, the woman he always appears opposite. And there's clearly things that he's not being told.... It's easy to make comparisons to groundhog day, but this is a very different kind of movie because there's a few twists and turns to be had. Some of which I did see coming and some I certainly didn't. Grounded by a solid performance from Jake Gyllenhall in the lead, but the two leading ladies are the real standouts acting wise. Michelle Monaghan makes Christina an ordinary but nice individual and the kind of person it would be easy to fall for very quickly. And Vera Farmiga is very good indeed as air force captain Goodwin, An officer who has professionalism and humanity in more than equal measure. The movie offers plenty of suspects, doesn't take the obvious twist, and even when the bomber is revealed there's still more to be resolved. Not least the fate of the captain. I did see one plot point in regards to this coming but that doesnt prepare you for the emotional impact of it. And some of the scenes that follow. Rather like moon it then has to do things in order to resolve the story, and does seem to go on longer than you would expect. But that does allows for a rather satisfying payoff - which is plausible although you might have to stop and think about it - and offers a lot of food for thought also. Clever storytelling and genuine science fiction with a decent lot of character drama thrown in, it's another good science fiction film from a director who likes to make them. But just like with moon it will leave you with a certain one hit wonder song stuck on the brain. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options: Languages: English. Subtitles: English. The disc starts with some trailers with some adverts in amongst them. You can skip the trailers via the next button on the dvd remote but that has no effect on the adverts. Although fast forward does. Extras are as follows: A commentary from star Jake Gyllenhaal, plus the director and the writer. A trivia track which when activated displays various bits of information about the film and other things whilst you watch it. Cast and crew insights: These are eleven short features each tackling a bit of the prodution, with brief comments from those involved. None are longer than four minutes maximum. They can be watched individually or all together. Some are brief promotional pieces. Others are quite interesting. Focal points: Five short features, all about a minute long each, covering some of the areas of science that the film touches on. All done in the style of a military training film. All quite fascinating if brief. And as with the above they can be watched individually or all together. Expert intel: eighteen minutes of a scientist talking - in short sections - about the science of the movie. This is just words over an almost static image. It's very interesting. But it's the science bit. So concentrate! And the original cinema trailer for the film.

It seems that the protagonist Sean has to undergo a series of challenges and the first takes place in a train with a bomb. It appears that there is either an element of time travel or something along those lines. Seventeen minutes in I get the impression this will be a recurring test! "You've been with us for two months!" "Captain this is not a simulation. Lives are depending on you." "Get ready to send him back in." "As always you'll have eight minutes!" "Perform only the task that we assign you. Everything else is irrelevant. Everyone on the train is really rude!! (Even the ticket inspector!) Its rather Ground Hog Day!! "Can I borrow your phone?!" - "It wasn't you!" This movie reminds me of Twelve Monkies. - I didn't like that movie and seem to be enjoying this one more. So where is Sean stuck?! - It looks like some sort of bunker. Maybe there's a massive twist in the tail. "Goodwin are you out there?!" "Source Code is not time travel." "Its the new me!" "What would you do if you had a minute left to live?!" "Don't squander it thinking.. - Do!" "What you doing?!" - "I'm just trying to remember something." He tells Christina he's been having really vivid dreams and she's been in them! LOL I think this film could have been executed better! "He's dead Sean." "The news report saying that I'm dead is irrelevant?!" This film just doesn't quite do it for me! - Maybe it will improve. "It's a different reality captain." "Send me back in!" Yeh looks a bit fake when he jumps out of the train!! Okay so he finds the guy planting the bombs!! "I'm asking you to have the decency to allow me to try!" "You think there's an alternate version of you?" "There will be no coming back.." - Or will there??! So he asks her out.. "Do you want me to initiate the memory wipe Captain?!" Why did this film have to go all sentimental??! - It could be so much better!! "Why are you always so bitter Max??!" - "Its a bitter world we live in my friend." "Christina. What would you do if you knew you had less than a minute to live??!" "So do you believe in fate?!" Short film and it slightly redeemed itself at the end!

This film is good because it has a very interesting premise which makes you think about it long after you've watched it. The IMDB chat threads certainly show you that. It's in the time travel/time loop genre which is why I bought it, as I like those ideas and wanted to see another interesting concept, this delivered that. Jake G is excellent in it acting wise and he's not hard on the eye either! So I would say a pretty good film, not a masterpiece in my opinion but a decent film with a good concept, good acting, and I might even one day watch this again. Put it this way, this is worthy of staying in my DVD collection, and I'm one of those people who only allows the worthy to stay in her DVD collection.

but also a bit like ground Hogg day. as Jake has to find a bomb/and the bombers identity, who is on a train. as the film progress's we discover that Jake, is a helicopter pilot.? and yet he is on another mission?? but he is in a machine? of sort's? Mmm! I hear you think, how strange.....but never the less.... persevere, and all will be revealed. a good enjoyable storyline, and definitely worth a a watch.

Un peliculón muy dinámico con un final más que interesante. Una magnífica interpretación y un argumento bastante sólido sobre el tiempo y el amor y el aprendizaje a través de ello.

Si reprodujo en mi PS4, soy de México.

DVD tecnicamente perfetto. La trama del film, reperibile su vari siti dedicati, ad es TV Film, MyMovies ect., è singolarmente accattivante, a volte un poco angosciante, ma via via si comprende che il finale sarà catartico e, naturalmente, fantascientifico come dev'essere. Splendide ma purtroppo troppo brevi, eppur risolutive, apparizioni di Vera Farmiga, attrice assai versatile e di gran lunga superiore, a mio avviso, a più blasonate dive USA attuali. Fra i suoi film 'leggeri' che ho visto raccomando 'Innamorarsi a Middleton', 'Tra le nuvole' e 'Henry's crime'. Nel secondo film compare con uno splendido nudo di schiena ripreso con gran classe.

This movie is a pretty cool idea and concept . It is character driven despite being pretty full of action. Good acting. Worth a watch but the type of movie you’ll only want to watch once
