Right tool for the right job
Headline says it all, sure you can use electrical tape or flagging tape, but if you are able to get what you need then why would you. My first year grafting but I am happy with this, you can see the scionwood through the tape (which you couldn't say about electrical tape) and that makes me more confident that I will be able to see the dead wood after my grafts fail since I am a rookie and decided I'd start with persimmons. :-DReally though, I like the stuff and I'm glad to have enough to last me for the rest of my life! I could probably do hundreds more just with my first roll out of the set.

I'll Never Use Anything Else
We all have our preferences, often simply what we get used to working with. For me, the one-inch wide Parafilm is unbeatable. I've grafted thousands of apple trees over the years and nothing is more user and tree-friendly. By the time the film blackens and begins to peel away from the graft, the healing is complete. With the stretchability of this tape, it self-sticks, so no need for anything else to do the job. A little goes a long way and it's a very forgiving product, even for beginners. Just keep it under tension when applying and it will stay in place. I do find the half-inch less forgiving in my large hands.

Great Grafting Tape
Parafilm makes a wonderful tape for grafting fruit trees. It takes a few tries to get the 'stretch' just right, but it's worth the effort. It breathes. It breaks down as the graft heals and expands. I love using this tape.

no more vinyl graft tape for me
fyi my first season of grafting, roughly 50 trees grafted after grafting the trees were painted with white latex paint mixed 50/50 with water. after trying both vinyl graft tape and this product i found that only 30% of the grafts with the vinyl tape survived, the ones that didn't i separated and almost all of them had molded, i figure from water getting in the union. all of the grafts with this product have survived and are doing great. if i can ill go take a picture of one of the grafts with this product and add it later.

Grafted Feijoas with this
Amazing stretchability. Feijoas are difficult to graft at the best of times. I wrapped the entire scion in parafilm with just two leaves left open at the top. Then cut the leaves in half to further cut back moisture loss. It is the middle of Winter here ( temps get down to 0 Degrees celsius) and they are doing well. I used a cleft graft of fresh outer growth scion onto 2 year old seedlings and 2 year old cutting grown plants. The seedlings are doing better.Wrapping the scion by winding the stretched parafilm around it first THEN cut the end of the scion (parafilm and all) ready to graft. THEN used more parafilm to wrap the scion and rootstock. This uses a lot of parafilm but given how difficult Feijoa can be to graft I reckon it's worth it.
