Can I put hot coffe

THE FOLLOWING IS BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCES-YOUR RESULTS MAY DIFFER.  HEAT THESE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

WE HAVE HAD MIXED RESULTS WITH HEATING THIS TYPE OF MUG.

Even though sellers are careful to indicate these are DESIGNED to be used ONLY for cold beverages, WE HAVE FOUND THAT they can be used for hot liquids-but there are a couple caveats, learned from many years of using the "Mason Jar type" mugs DAILY for tea and coffee. 
 
We have had about a dozen of these break-(those we haven't dropped or hit on something hard), either by developing a crack-be it a small one or a large one and and NOT immediately leaking,  or a crack that results in an immediate leak,  or having a catastrophic failure where the mug comes apart completely into 2 or more pieces-often with the  bottom section separating from the top, usually from somewhere below the handle.

For getting the MAXIMUM (limited) lifespan from this type of mug, the following tips HAVE HELPED. 
They have to do with thermal shock-the RAPID change in temperature of the glass from cold to hot or vice versa.

1. DO NOT use very cold water and immediately heat it in a  microwave. 
(DON'T even use very cold tap water)  
2. DO NOT use a very cold MUG and immediately put it into a microwave. 
(as in taking one from the refrigerator and immediately heating it).
3. DO NOT heat a partially full mug and then put a lot of a cold liquid into it. (such as if making coffee or tea and then immediately diluting it half and half with cold milk)
4. DO NOT heat a partially full mug and then immediately add several ICE CUBES into it because its too hot. to drink. 
5. AFTER HEATING, DO NOT put these down on a cold surface. 
6. Be very careful when washing these to avoid scratching or chipping them. 
7. DO NOT HEAT any mug that YOU KNOW has a chip or scratch in it-even if its a tiny one. 
(a sharp edged defect is an easy starting point for having a thermal failure) 
8. Remember, these are GLASS  and are NOT as thick glass as PYREX or Corningware, and empty or full, hot or cold, handle them accordingly.

You may very well get away with heating this type of mug without having one fail for a long time, even if you ignore ALL these tips, but EVENTUALLY any mug not designed for hot liquids will fail. 
 Also, we've found that SOME mugs will tolerate heating (with or without these abuses) for a much longer time than others.   We've had a few break within DAYS of starting to use them, and others that lasted for a year or longer.

Just a question, Is the lid made from aluminium or stainless steel?

I think Aluminum , like the lids in on jelly jar. I used the ones I bought as part of a gift basket. I used the mugs to go with  a box of tea, a local honey bear, crocheted slippers I had made and a small loaf of homemade banana bread.  these are not made by MASON but a different company, lids are one single piece
