Bought New, Got Used

I am not reviewing the authors work here as the series is really good. I bought Thirteen to finish my collection of this series. I bought the paperback New. However there is obvious wear on the cover and some pages folded. If I had order Used:Very Good condition this would have been exactly that but I didn't. So beware if you're wanting New, you may not get it but pay full price anyway.

Fantastic series finale!

Thirteen was the best series finale I've ever read, I do believe. Armstrong brought back all of our favorites in this epic ending, and we got to see how each narrator's story ended. Everyone got a turn, and I really enjoyed that. While this book was all about Savannah's final journey, Armstrong included a very short epilogue of sorts letting us know how things wrapped up for Elena and Clay as well. She wanted things to come full circle, and I'm glad she handled things that way. I enjoyed the last story being about Savannah, but I liked the very, very end being about Elena and Clay. This ending was perfect, in my opinion, and while I was sad that the series was over, I ended the book feeling happy. Armstrong really couldn't have written a better ending to this series. The narration was different from previous Otherworld books. Savannah told most of the story in first person narration, but randomly, one of the narrators of previous books got to tell their story. However, the other narrators were in third person limited POVs. Still, the narrators reflected on their lives so that we could also reflect on the character growth of all of the narrators over this series. Each narrator got a turn: Jamie, Elena, Paige, Hope, and Eve. The switch in narrators didn't bother me, and I enjoyed remembering each character's individual journey. I loved all of the narrators (other than Hope) in the series, and I was glad to see how they each came into their own. Savannah's character development was fantastic over the arc of the past three novels, and I am very happy with how she turned out. Cassandra really surprised me at the end, and I grew to respect her more as a character as well. I was left with good feelings about everyone in the series. There was nonstop action and adventure, though there was really no mystery. By this point in the story, we knew who all of the bad guys were. People surprised the characters, betrayed them, etc., but I always saw it coming beforehand. Anytime something seemed to work out in a character's favor, I knew that it was too simple and things would fall apart shortly. That always happened. Armstrong really tested her characters up until the very end. There was no tranquil ending for the women of the Otherworld, and I'm sure they wouldn't want one.The pacing was spot on, and even though I purposefully dragged this book out, I was never bored. I just didn't want the series to end, so I read a little tiny bit at a time over a few days to ensure I made the series last as long as possible. I know, it's silly, but that's what I did anyway. The ending tied everything up nicely, and I truly feel that every question that's ever been raised in the series has been answered. I'm content with how everyone's story ended. The ending was open, however. There is the possibility of Armstrong writing another book if she wants because it's clear that the adventures are far from over, but I feel that the story arc itself has ended. Things were tied up nicely, and if there isn't another Otherworld book written ever, then I'd be perfectly happy with how things ended.I really do not want to spoil this book for anyone, so I am going to end this review here. The Otherworld series has been my favorite series for years, and will probably continue to be my favorite series for the rest of my life. Every single book grabbed me, and this last one was no different. I'd recommend this book to everyone who's ever read the series. If you haven't read the series, go buy Bitten right now!Well done, Kelley, well done.

Worth Reading Spellbound

I must admit starting into this story I was both excited and depressed. After following these characters since I first read Bitten in 2004 I was seriously unhappy that after this I was going to have to depart from them, possibly indefinitely. At the same time I wanted to see what was going to happen in all of their lives. I have to say that while a LOT happened in this book it was all incredibly worth it. In the end we got to find out what happens to everyone-Eve, Kristof, Savannah, Adam, Elena, Clayton, Jeremy, Jamie, Lucas, Paige, Karl, Hope, Aaron and Cassandra. All the top players in the supernatural world were given at least a few minutes in the limelight; with all those characters that's a tall order.**There may be some spoilers, but nothing major**Savannah plays the most critical role as she's our narrator for this book as she struggles to cope with her handicapped powers when she probably needs them the most. This is all done for a reason, but isn't clearly seen until the end of the book. There are hints of romance between her and Adam and hesitation to step further from both parties that only very gradually resolves itself. Some reviewers have commented that it seems to be Savannah's coming of age story, but I feel that was more the case in Spellbound. In this book she seems to have come more into her own and is making her own decisions and stepping out of the shadows of her mother and father.Eve takes a huge and unexpected role in the beginning of the book, and Kristof also gets a chance to have an effect from the afterlife.Demons and angels are duking it out in the netherworld and everywhere is complete chaos meaning there is no higher power to intervene, it's up to the foot soldiers on the front lines to try to stop the great reveal that was being planned in Spellbound. There are some great cliffhangers, close calls and sacrifices in the book. It's a page turner that you won't want to end. There are cuts to third person POV in some places to show the other women of the Otherworld we've grown accustomed to. This helps give them their moment, and the characters they're with a moment without having to see them through the filter of Savannah's perspective and I really liked those chapters. At certain times in the book-like where Jaz is concerned, you can see where Kelley had started planning this many books ago and they fell neatly into place in this final installment. All in all, I really have no negative complaints about the book. It helped tie up many of the loose ends in the Otherworld without slamming the door for other stories to be pulled from some dangling threads. Kelley said herself that there is no happily ever after for these characters, no magic spell that will fix everything and end their adventures. I for one am hoping there will be more to be had very soon!

A fantastic final foray into the Otherworld - though not the last we see of the characters.

I'm not sure why this is here to review now as I bought it years ago, but it appears I forgot to review it here -(bad Nicky!), so here it goes:Well, I cannot rate this higher, I adore the Women of the Otherworld series.Again, we join Savannah Levine as she and her friends and family fight against SLAM (they gave them the extra vowel) and their dangerous supernatural reveal movement, aided by a certain Lord Demon. There is fighting on both sides of the veil, creatures from hell appearing on the New York subway, rabid werewolves and vampires at a rooftop wedding, demi demons possessing children, action, magic, romance, deadly viruses - this book has it all!All of the characters that we have got to know and love are here in this final volume and we finally get to witness the reunion of two favourite characters (I won't ruin it and say who) which is quite emotional, but not overly so - this is the Otherworld after all, we'll deal with the emotions later. We see Savannah growing into her powers, growing into her position and generally growing as a person. I don't want to go into the story as it is a great read that I believe any fantasy fan should enjoy without spoilers - unless you like them of course. As we know, Kelley Armstrong likes her novellas - something I love her for - so although this is the final book, there are novellas that take place after 13 and hopefully another novel or two...or thirteen later on, maybe when all the Otherworld children have grown? If you have read some of the Women of the Otherworld books before, definitely finish and get to 13, if you like Kelley Armstrong but haven't read WotO yet, do it and if you like fantasy but haven't picked up this gem of a series yet, I implore you to give it a go. I enjoy fantasy books of all types, as does my partner (though he prefers high fantasy over all others) and he loves the Otherworld also, so it isn't just for us women.

The last book in the series

The war is here and Savannah and the rest of the interracial council are on the front lines. The book starts immediately after the bombing of the medical lab and with Bryce critically ill, Savannah, Adam, Jeremy and Jaime are on the run from the members of the reveal movement. Savannah is reeling from the disaster (and also a passionate kiss with Adam) and is soon arrested with Jaime. In the police station, strange things begin to happen and Savannah is left in shock when her mother is brought over to the world of the living. The veil between one world and the next is thinning and with it ghosts, demons and angels are being released amongst the living. There is division amongst the supernaturals and the higher beings about revealing their world to humans and along with it there is a race against time to prevent the groups plans from happening (although somehow there is time for Savannah and Adam to confirm their relationship).I am so sad about this being the last book of the series but I loved it all the same. I loved the action, the storyline, the relationship between Adam and Savannah and even the ending fit so well and left it open for the short stories that Kelley is planning to write in an anthology. Every major character is involved in some way and a few smaller stories, such ad the fate of Jasper Haig, are concluded. Read this series you will not regret it.

Cracking end to a fantastic series

No spoilers here. Having followed Women of the Otherworld from Bitten to 13, including several shorts published on Kelley's own pages, I was a bit worried this book couldn't carry the ending off, particularly as the ending encompassed a trilogy of books. Needn't have worried, what a corker! Plenty of action, plot and great storytelling, our Kelley is a genius and a brave soul too, to actually have the courage to say "thats enough" when you know for sure the publisher's will have pushed to keep milking the cash cow of this fabulous series. So what to say, don't start here obviously, go buy her back catalogue, starting with Bitten. Set aside many hours to read, re-read and then read again her brilliant books. Prepare to fall in love with Clay, Lucas, Adam and Jeremy,(other lesser hero's are available)it will be the start of a life-long love affair I'm afraid. And finally, always be grateful that Kelley had the wit, the will and the good fortune to be a brilliant writer. I'm off to read all her YA series again, which are also fantastic, of course!.

Great finale

I’ve had this book for 4 years in my to be read pile due to change in reading material.I went back due to a feeling about finishing this series run and finding out what happened to Savannah and Elena and Paige. We get the story and a great one it is through and through I remember my obsession with Kelley Armstrong books and as usual I read a book within 24 hours she always draws me back in to her Otherworld!Would love to find out about this group and what happened to them later on but loved it anyway.

A great final book in a most wonderful series

This book is a fantastic ending to a serial which has kept me engrossed. It was fast paced and made the most of the characters I have become attached to over previous books. The stories of the whole series have been very cleverly interwoven, with wonderfully developed characters. All credit is due to the author for managing to create a world which, although on the one hand is unbelievable, feels as if it may actually run in parallel to our own. At the end of this final book I was left with the feeling that all of my friends were leaving the town where we all live and leaving me behind. I felt happy that they would continue in their adventures, but could not shake off the feeling that I was being left behind.
