funny, and original
First of all, the illustrations in this book are bright, colorful, funny, and original. We will definitely read it to our son again just to look at the pictures. The story, however, falls kind of flat. It's too didactic for my taste, with the lesson being that we all have our particular skills and talents. The story starts off very strong. The fox, Bogo, invents some amazing things but his inventions never work out. These pages are funny and imaginative. But then Bogo gives up inventing. Some wolves arrive and Bogo is able to smell and hear them and warn the other animals. Some problems here: foxes aren't that different from wolves. Why isn't he an enemy to the other animals? I could forgive this point if the wolves had been set up as an enemy in the first half of the book, but they just show up out of nowhere. And you don't actually see Bogo rushing to warn his friends. That part is one sentence. Then the book goes on and on for pages about what a wonderful invention Bogo's nose, ears, and legs are because he used them to warn the animals. Remember, we didn't even get to see him warning them. And compared to the cool things Bogo made in the first half, his nose/ears/legs seem pretty lame. Plus, they aren't really "inventions" in the same sense - he didn't create them! He just HAS them. So he really is still a terrible inventor. The book ends with Bogo continuing to invent things that don't work. Which is kind of disappointing. Who cares if he has a keen nose? I wanted his cool ideas to amount to something! And one last minor point - this story is a translation, but it still bothered me that "bogo" in English means "buy one get one free!"

Beautifully Illustrated Story Teaches Several Important Lessons ...
Susanna Isern’s “Bogo, the Fox Who Wanted Everything” is a lovely story that teaches children two important life lessons. Each individual has unique abilities can use to help others. Each should do what they love to do for the inherent joy it brings them and not for the material rewards. Imparting these lessons through a fun-to-read story, Ms Isern does not preach or moralize. Instead, she gently allows young readers or listeners to reach those conclusions independently.Bogo, the fox, lived in a tree high above the forest floor. From there, he was able to view the forest and its inhabitants. Bogo is so amazed by them and decides he must invent amazing things so he can have everything he wants. Mimicking each of several different animals’ natural abilities or physical characteristics, Bogo invents seven items that prove to be failures. Overcome, Bogo retreats to his tree-house home. Only after he understands his own unique abilities does Bogo realize he should invent things for the joy it brings.Several important lessons fill the pages of “Bogo, the Fox Who Wanted Everything”. Susanna Isern is able to help both young listeners and readers understand that every individual has some type of unique talent. Through using their abilities to help others, the individual will learn that others value those abilities. Giving up, particularly a passion, simply because one fails is never the best option. Others may value and enjoy those efforts more than you realize.Sonja Wimmer’s beautiful illustrations are executed in bright, highly saturated colors. Whimsical and very detailed, the artwork in “Bogo, the Fox Who Wanted Everything” is delightful. It adds to the enjoyment of the book. As the book is read, pay particular attention to the intricacy of the pictures so that you discover their full content. The illustrations, alone, merit a five star rating.

Sweet story to remind us we are all special
Bogo is a fox who thinks that his forest friends have more amazing things than he does. Bogo invents a variety of of this things ( wings, big eyes, shells etc) and none work out quite the way they should. Disheartened, Bogo takes to his bed and doesn't come out, all his friends worry about him. Until! Bogo smells wolves and hears them plotting to get all his friends! Silently and swiftly Bogo takes off to warn all his friends and save the day. His friends are so happy and tell him how special HE is. Cute story, very nice non traditional drawings. You'll enjoy sharing this book with your kids.

Beautiful illustrations and a good message
Beautifully illustrated story with a good message. Not one or my boys’ favorites... but I enjoy reading it. They do, however, like the pictures in this book. I think the message is a bit lost on them now but we will keep this in our library and revisit in a while!

Every Child Is Special
I like the storyline- it's about a fox that wanted to be like all the other animals he knew but in the end he finds that he's perfect just the way he is. I think every kid at some point wonders what's special about them and this is an excellent story to remind them that they are special and perfect just the way they are. The illustrations are bright and cheery. My 6 yr old loves it.

Beautifully illustrated and a story with a moral lesson that all children need to learn as early as possible.
This is an enchanting little book about a Fox named Bogo who wants to be special. He's an inventor and dreams up lots of different contraptions that would make him more like the other creatures living around him. Things don't really turn out that well until danger comes to the place he lives and Bogo the Fox takes action. This is all about discovering your own special qualities and allowing yourself to be different from others. The illustrations are absolutely amazing. Every page is filled to the edge with full color fantasies and highly styled fantastical visions depicting Bogo and the other creatures in his forest. Your little one will be fascinated, but you will be amazed and impressed. This is definitely one for Grammy's library.

Not good for repeated readings
The pictures are quite interesting, but the text is a little convoluted for a little one. Older children might be puzzledby the animals calling Bogo's ears, leg, and nose inventions, since those are actual innate physical characteristics.Overall it was interesting, but not good enough for repeated reading. Not recommended
