Great Reading Activity Book
If your kid, like mine, doesn't enjoy Reading Comprehension, or writing long sentences, this is the book for you. It keeps questions and activities short, simple and fun. You have either crossword, find the word, draw a picture, match questions to formulate them, etc .. It is fun way to do Reading Comprehension. I like it. So does my child.

Below 5th grade level for US school!!!!
This is way below US school level for 5th grade. Not a challenging enough for my 5th grader. I bought this as a supplement to help my son, who is struggling in his class, but it turned out to be so easy for my struggling son!!

Well-written & Exciting Stories for Your Student
I was given an examination copy of The Big Book of Reading Comprehension Activities to review, and I am so excited to share what I found. As a former public school teacher and homeschool mother of ten, I have evaluated, utilized, and rejected many resources when looking for helpful practice workbooks. However, I found this book to be a great value due to its quantity and variety of excellent content. There are plenty of activities in this book to supplement a fifth-grade reading curriculum. The well-written and captivating stories should be enjoyed by most students, and some will also be challenged. In this book, Ann goes beyond the standard "hum-drum" fill-in-the-blank exercises found in typical workbooks. The varied activities include anagrams, recalling details, making inferences, vocabulary, puzzles, and so much more.I recommend this book because I believe that a fifth-grade student will appreciate the depth of Ann's work to not make him/her feel that they are being assigned trivial "busy work." I applaud her for writing such an interesting book to practice and reinforce what is already being taught in the classroom, online or in a homeschool setting. I plan to give this resource to my daughter for her sixth-grade son and I am sure he will enjoy it.

Great resource for reading comprehension
Looking for reading comprehension book? This is the one for quick reviews of all the elements. It covers nonfiction, narrative, poetry and does so using a variety of learning styles and reading samples. There is sure to be something for everyone. Nonfiction includes science-based, history and geography. Narratives are based on numerous situations. Each activity is one to two pages long, just the right length for a class starter or a quick filler. I have taught for 34 years and think this book would be an asset to any resource library. So glad I received my copy for review. I love it.

Great resource for essentially any fifth grader
It has been more than a decade since we had a fifth grader at home but we also have a granddaughter who just started the sixth grade. Fortunately I was able to review an advance copy from the publisher and was most impressed with the variety of stories and the creative methods of checking comprehension of each of the stories. It certainly tested my own reading and comprehension skills and I would like to think I was a reasonably good student those decades ago. I can recommend this book highly for both parents and grandparents to give to, or better yet share with, the children in your life.

A Great Resource
The cover mentions that these are activities for after school and summer reading, but I have found this to be a great resource in the classroom for interventions. I will also use these in my summer packets though :) The design is fun and attractive and I especially appreciate the diversity and cultural awareness in the passages. These activities certainly build comprehension skills, but there is also a lot of opportunity for cross-subject learning (science, history, mathematics, social skills, community building). The Big Book of Reading Comprehension Activities impressed me on several levels, highly recommend.
