It turns water
If you need to turn water that’s running through your 1” pipe in a different direction this will do it.

Key part for DIY'er- great product
Not sure why Home Depot didn't carry these as they are critical to making heights and angles work with piping. In my case, I was changing the drainage pipes from my A/C and furnace, and these were perfect as one end goes on the outside while the other fits the inside, which allows the connecting pipe to be whatever angle is needed rather than being limited to the 45 or 90 degree standard "outside only" fittings.
