Best book i could find about the BMW x5 and how to service my car.

I had a different service manual that was grossly insufficient. When I got this one, I have already been able to use it for repairs on my X5 that has resulted in thousands of dollars of savings. It's very thorough with plenty of pictures, charts, and tables. It's the closest thing I've seen to having a factory service manual. I won't part with this until I sell this car which won't happen since it has given me 308K miles relatively trouble free.

The extended warranty is up, I'm on my own. I have a million tools and know my way around cars, but the E53 is a complex vehicle and there are a few surprises. Worth it to avoid having to run 40 miles to get a part or a special tool.The book is huge and equal to any coffee table book in size and heft. People thumb through it, get a glazed look and put it down. Quite imposing.Reading through brake replacement and basic maintenance is not quite as easy as it could be, but it is there. Some things are glossed over like the recommended every two years brake fluid replacement, when it is something that can be done by many people if explained properly.I prefer good line drawings to low resolution photos. Very low resolution in some cases. Does it really cost more to print with some resolution?If it was up to me, I would have a separate section that was nothing but maintenance and common mechanical repairs, like brakes, belts and hoses. As it is you have to go through the book to find each repair. The good news is that the index is very good and in time you get to the section you need.It is nice that it just covers the same model car, the X5, and not a whole bunch of sedans and such. This focused approach makes the book quite useable and unlike manuals I have used for other cars in the past.The book is so nice that I am afraid of getting it dirty out in the garage. My plan is to scan the pages I am using and leave the book inside.I had a reprieve of a few years of warranty, but now I am back to fixing and maintaining my cars again. This book was a no-brainer to make this a good experience.My '05 X5 is a fine vehicle, the best car I have ever owned, and almost totally reliable. I believe I can get a couple more years out of it at least at fairly minimal expense.

This manual is recommended for anybody who loves servicing his car by himself. It will cover every aspect of your e53 X5, engine, drivetrain, suspension, electrical systems with detailed diagrams, HVAC, Body, interior ....Have owned the Bentley manuals for the e34 and e39 and all were great. They have helped me fix stuff and find faults that no single auto repair shop was able to fix.

This is a very nice manual but so far I'm not finding it to be very instructional. It has good photos but very little detail. I'm not a professional mechanic so I need more information than I get here. However, it's good for helping me find things on the car. But like so many things BMW, there are still some secrets that it does not reveal and some things are glazed over. I still have to get help online or on YouTube. So, not a waste of money but not as good as I had hoped.

In my opinion buying this book was a good investment. Saved me from spending thousands of dollars on (lousy and money grabbing) dealership bills. Not to mention the sheer annoyance dealing with them... ;)First seemed overpriced ($80) but after running out of troubleshooting options and getting the book all made sense: the level of detail and accuracy of the information is just great.

Not exactly a 'light' read but full of detail and all the technical info required.

C'est très cher, mais c'est un gros volume et complet. Aucune autre revue technique existante aussi complète pour le X5. En anglais.
