I love the extra mic holder..!
I teach guitar lessons and I use the mic holder to record my students when they play the guitar in my studio. Being able to listen back to what they play, helps them to understand what they are doing wrong, and what they are doing RIGHT.! This makes each lesson more productive.. I also use it when I play out in public and use my Acoustic guitar to mic my guitar to the p a system. Which is run through the mixer and balanced to the vocal tracks, giving my gig a more professional look and experience.!

Works Great with One Minor Upgrade
I used these to mount some travel music holders to mic stands to have less clutter on the stage and easier portability. I just unthreaded the large screw for the mic clip, and replaced it with a long screw for mounting the music holder (see my review for the Ravel SSRAVELDESK Desktop Music Stand - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q9Z5XW/). It works great! The one thing I find disappointing about the MY550 bar is the tiny pressure point where the clamp screw contacts the mic stand. It is plastic so it shouldn't scratch the stand, but it's less than 1/8" in diameter. I was concerned that it might put a dent in the stand when secured tightly, so I upgraded it. I bought a pack of 7/8" plastic base nail-on furniture glides (the plastic feet for the bottom of wooden furniture) from the hardware store. Since the tip is plastic, I just centered the nail on the tip, and turned the screw until it sunk the nail in all the way. That gives a larger surface area to spread the pressure out, and worked great on my mic stands.

Useful device
Useful hardware. Because of the sheet metal construction, whatever you mount isn't rocksolid, but it is secure. The little plastic piece at the inside end of the tightening screw doesn't last very long.

Re: mic'ing an amp
I'm giving it a 4/5 rating not because I like the design, but because it's an $8 piece that--while its not necessarily working as described--it is working more or less as I had expected. I've mounted the arm to my amp stand brace instead of the amp cabinet lip, and gently wedged the mic against the grill cloth (pictured herein). My two important observations are (1) it will only mount to an amp cabinet lip deeper than 1/2", and (2) the 5/8" 27 screw does not thread into my mic clip deep enough to hold the mic steady--it spins freely (YMMV). I don't want the mic wedged against the grill cloth, so I soon plan to get a couple of metal washers or some other type of spacer to place between the mic clip and screw, so that the mic will be held firmly. It's not an elegant solution, but it is cost effective, and it clears studio space of an unnecessary mic stand.

Attaches easily
This attaches to most any stand with many different ways to point the mic. I use for my cymbal mics on my Cajon set.....love it!

Not good for Shure SM57
I needed a offset from my boom to set up a mid-side configuration using a Shure SM57 and a KSM44. Unfortunately, the receiving threads in the SM57 mount were too shallow (OR the mounting screw in this extension bar screw were too long), so the extension attachment screw bottomed out in the mike mount before it could be tightened to the extension. As a result, it wobbled loosely even though it was screwed in tightly. However, I fashioned a washer to go between the mount and the extension to take up the slack (see accompanying photo), and I was able to cinch it tight. As others have noted, the metal of the extension will flex slightly, but that isn't a concern for my application.

Perfect For home recording.
I record in my living room. My wife would not be thrilled with another mic stand sitting by the computer -this enables me to add a mic without adding another stand. It works great.

5*
Really helped in my vocal booth! My mic stand was far too idle and this just put the microphone right where it was needed!

...but it was cheap!
The edges are a bit rough, and the screw where you would mount your mic clip came cross-threaded from the factory. I can get it to bite in my mic bar if I mess around with it, and it does kinda work if you don't move it.I think this is a "You get what you pay for" situation. This was the cheapest one I found, and I'd say "fair" value for money. If you're on a tight budget it works. If you've got another $20 in your pocket, get something a little nicer imo.

Will work just fine on most mic stands
Seems to hold the small mixer I have on it reasonably well. Will work just fine on most mic stands, but I am struggling a bit to get it to stay put where I want it on a larger diameter tube (laptop stand), as there is not enough thread to start the screw in.
