RYOBID43K 5.5 Amp 3/8 Inch 1,600 RPM Variable Speed Trigger Corded Power Drill

After my new first choice different brand drill broke right out of the box, I got this drill to install a deadbolt lock into a steel-clad exterior solid core door. It didn't balk at drilling the holes. It's a good weight, probably less than a battery-powered one and certainly less bulky. I never object to a factory reconditioned tool, knowing it's cheaper and has been looked at twice. I expect this one to be reliable for years, doing typical miscellaneous homeowner jobs.

Despite the drill being pre-owned, it was in excellent condition. The package included everything I received from an exact drill I already had, including the zip bag container and even full instruction manual. For those considering getting into woodworking, having two drills at your disposal is almost mandatory, as you should pre-drill every hole you screw into wood. Drill bit(s) for one drill, screw tip in the other and your work goes much, much faster, since you are not constantly stopping to change bits or tips.Ryobi builds an excellent line of power tools and I highly recommend this one as well.

Great product, great price

OK so most of us use a cordless drill as a daily driver these days, but what about those times that you need more RPMs, or your battery is dead? Yeah, if you tinker a lot, you probably need a corded 3/8 drill.I think if you used this drill daily on the job, the dollar store quality chuck would give up the ghost within a few weeks, if not a few hours. However, for the average tinkerer/homeowner the cheesy chuck shouldn't be a problem; at least it hasn't been so far for me.This is my drill inventory:BOSCH 18v cordless for 95% of my drilling endeavors. BOSCH is my favorite easy in power tool name brands, but for as little as I use a corded 3/8, the cost could not be justified.Milwaukee 1/2 corded for heavy stuff; I have an old USA model which is tough enough to mix concrete!And finally this Ryobi, which has served it's purpose well for small diameter drilling, rust removal with a sander attachment, and miscellaneous tinkering and Aggie-rigging. Recommend if you need a drill for stuff like this.

This drill really works. High speed and great for use with hardened drill bits. I have had to drill through some 3/4 inch steel plate where I could not use my drill press at my lake home. So I bought a second one for my in town home too.

I buy for the second time, a reliable partner at work.

This lacks the most basic feature—I don't know what it's called but I thought that by now every drill had it—allowing you to use it to drive screws and not just drill holes. The feature allows a sort of "break way" when the screw is in all the way and saves you from breaking your wrist or having the drill keep spinning after the screw stops turning. This is unsafe for half of what a drill is used for (for me it's actually 95% of what I use a drill for!) making this a TERRIBLE HORRIBLE PURCHASE. DON'T BUY IT!
