Really keeps me "on task" learning piano.

I really like the continuity of writing in my assignments (self taught), and seeing the progress I have made.Would give 5 stars if it had lines to write on.I draw my own crooked lines!

Could be the most important music book you ever buy

This music journal serves as an organizer for music practice and as a log book so students can track their progress. The journal also has pages in the back where various lists (such as "My Music Books," "My Performances & Recitals," and "Music I've Listened To") can be created.Although "My Music Journal" is a thin book, it has enough weekly entry sheets to last 48 weeks. It's geared toward young people (grade school level, I'd say) but is more than appropriate for anyone who practices music and can read (words), regardless of their age. I'm using "My Music Journal" as I study forgotten jazz (last studied in earnest 20 years ago) and classical guitar techniques and repertoire. For the price, you can't go wrong. I will probably buy one of these every year. The "Lesson Assignments" layout (taking up half a large page, and repeated 48 times in the book) gives a place to record (1) "Date" (2) "Lesson Assignments," (3) "Weekly Schedule" with the a small square area designated for each day of the week, and (4) a small rectangular area below each of these small squares, for recording time spent practicing, called "Practice Record."Full table of contents:Lesson Assignments...................4-27Journal Entries.....................28-33Music History Time-Line.............34-39Staff Paper.........................40-47Keyboard Guide.....................(inside) front coverDictionary of Terms................(inside) back coverDimensions: 9 by 12 inchesCover: Full color on thick (14 point) cover stock with white plastic spiral binding

Works great for planning my kids’ lessons and practice

I don’t actually use this completely as intended, which is for one student to keep track. I use it with my children, and use one box on each page for each child (4 kids, so two boxes on left page/2 boxes on right), so I use two pages at a time, but I use each box to write in their week’s lesson plan, and then they keep up with their practice each day, so I use two pages facing each other per week. It works out great because it keeps everything in one place, and helps me to stay organized with what each child is doing. It also helps keep me going with remembering to teach their lesson each week, because they fill out the practice boxes and remind me when they’re on the last one.

Great for class

My son uses this during pinao class to help know what they did during the lesson and what to practice at home

Great for kids

I bought this for my daughter (10yo), and she loves it. Favorites: lesson Assignments ages with weekly schedule to write down practice times, and journal pages for favorite music, memorized pieces, concerts attended etc...Reason why I gave it one star less than perfect rating is that the weekly schedule is prewritten with the days. It would be better to have it blank, you one can enter the days in sequence after practice. If you practice on Mondays, the squares for practice time would start on Tuesday..... etc.We could also use a bit more space for Lessons Assignments. Our teacher writes a lot of notes for me to know how to surpervise the lessons. Half the page might be enough for an older student when all teacher does is just write down a piece or two to practice. We have exersizes written down with detaled notes on speed, fingering, what to pay attention to etc etc.We could use a whole page for that.

I've used My Music Journal for years with my piano students.

Students write assignment down as their lesson progresses. Keeps them focused. They ask more questions to make sure they understand any new concepts.
