Rollercoaster Project

The kit is great! It had everything needed to complete the roller coaster. My kids felt using the instructions was cheating but is was wonderful to have all the pieces needed for trial and error to take it's course.

Lots of pieces for the price

The track is extremely tricky to put on. We never got the car to run all the way it's own even though my husbands an engineer. The lesson plans are good.

K'NEX kit review

This was a real bargain - perfect for our summer engineering camp. It helped our students work cooperatively to build something.

Huge Rip Off!

To say that this educational kit is sub-par is an understatement! I teach a variety of STEM classes and summer camps, and have used K'Nex Education kits for more than a decade, so I'm no rookie when it comes to educational kits. This is hands-down the worst STEM kit I have ever purchased!Despite the fact that the kit touts itself as suitable for up to 8 students, only one alarmingly incomplete set of instructions is included. (and none of those models are needed to teach the curriculum) The remainder of the instructions, and the accompanying teacher's guide are in PDF form on an enclosed DVD. As it is imperative that student instructions be printed in color for clarity, that meant more than $200 of printing costs were added to this already overpriced kit. Add in necessary binders, tabs, and laminating or page protectors, and my out of pocket costs soared further.Once I passed that hurdle, I had to supplement the storage bins provided because no dividers are included to keep the different rods, connectors, chains, and cogs organized--a basic requirement for any well run classroom. (Previous kits from K'Nex, LEGO, and others have always come with organizational methods)Lesson preparation is impossible without printing out the PDF files. And there is page after page of useless educational jargon regarding standards and the like. It's as if I have to hunt through an attic of discarded junk each time I need to find a gem of knowledge about the proposed use of the kit. The lessons start out with such basic concepts that a 2nd grader could predict the outcome without constructing the apparatus. But the most horrendous surprise was this: The student instructions are appalling! Our first project, the incline plane, has only 2 sheets of instructions: just a large diagram of the finished project! At least 8 pages of clearly illustrated instructions should have been provided for this level of complexity. There are no step-by-step instructions, and no page numbering, so if pages are taken from their binder, mass confusion ensues. Even the color of some of the rods in the diagram is wrong. So students with no previous K'Nex experience are at a complete loss as to how to proceed, and veteran K'Nex lovers are left scratching their heads in confusion.Teachers beware! This kit is a complete waste of your precious instructional funds. Parents, don't waste your money either. For shame, K'Nex! We expect better things from you.

The pieces are fine and in "like new"condition but the Teachers' DVD is not supplied. Instead you get paper copy of the teacher's guide.
