South ShoreAxess Desk with Keyboard Tray-Weathered Oak

This desk is excellent! I bought myself a second desk after getting the Altra 9176096 Metal Desk with Bookcase, Black on Silver. This has become my primary desk for working on schoolwork and using my laptop (the keyboard tray is a nice feature to save space on the top of the desk) -- I was originally going to use it as a workbench, but I liked it enough that I decided I didn't want to ruin its surface with scratches and knife marks. While it may be a little small for some, the size is perfect for me; there is enough space to have my laptop running on the side and keep papers and a notebook open on the desk surface. I'm actually using it without the top portion, since I have more use for a large flat area than a small shelf -- there are a few holes on the edges but usually they are covered by something. One thing to note is that this desk is HEAVY! Might be because the wood seems like it is high quality. I had to carry it piece by piece into my room (on the second floor) for assembly, but after it is assembled you can slide it around a bit. Instructions are easy to follow, assembly takes about 60-90 minutes for one person working alone, and a lot of that is maneuvering the heavier pieces into place, so with two people it should go substantially faster.Pros:+ Good price+ High quality wood+ Good finish (does not absorb water, easy to clean)+ Good instructions, relatively fast assembly+ Keyboard tray is useful to save space if you're using it as a computer deskCons:- Very Heavy- May be a little small if you have multiple monitors, or need extra "working area"

I have attached pictures of the South Shore Axess Collection Desk, Chocolate but would like to apologize for the mess on the desk as I had just moved when these were taken.The price point on the desk is pretty nice for the quality and build you get. I didn't expect anything that I could throw out a window and it still stay together, however, I also didn't expect a plastic desk with wheels that could fall apart at any minute; this desk fit the bill perfectly.When I first opened this my home was dim lit so it looked almost black. The picture that is from the advertisement must be in extremely good lighting because this desk in normal home lighting is very very dark chocolate. It was a none issue as I actually like this look better, but it is slightly different than the picture for anyone concerned with the look.This wasn't difficult to put together but it was tricky doing it alone, but I managed. If you are putting this together you may want to have an extra set of hands to hold up certain boards just so you don't break or snap anything. Just like any other compressed board items you buy, it was simple and straight forward with the construction of this, it took me about an hour from start to finish. One thing to note, on the right side of the drawer the gap at the top is a bit wider than that of the bottom. To most it's not noticeable but since I was the one putting it together it did catch my eye pretty easily. This sits our bedroom now in a corner so it's not a problem but for someone who may have this in their living room it could be noticeable by anyone paying attention.The quality of this feels extremely nice. It feels very durable and sturdy. Obviously I wouldn't go kicking and hitting it but if you were to put multiple monitors, speakers, external hard drives, etc it would hold up. The back stand piece just slides in and out of holes in the desk so you can remove this if you don't like and want to add additional room to the base of the desk, however it's a nice added feature and would be advised to keep it.I like this and would recommend to anyone!

Just built the desk tonight. Really not that hard to put together, although I am very handy. Only problem is that I didn't realize until half way through that the top of the desk had a surface crack across one side. I decided to finish it and see if I can get a replacement from the manufacturer. I will update with results. Really not a bad desk for the price. The design is great, but the material is cheap. It's pressed wood with a very thin veneer. I've had items made of similar material and I know they don't last. But, for the price it's ok. If they send me a replacement top I'll be happy. ASSEMBLY TIP: lay out the pieces like they show in step 1 and it's much easier to put together.UPDATE:Emailed South Shore customer service this morning. Here is the customer service email: South Shore Service <services@southshore.ca> This afternoon received a response that they are sending me a new desktop. They're also sending me the studs to connect to the base. Very happy with service. Great company with fast response to service requests.2nd update 8-16-16:Installed new desktop. Very easy to replace. Arrived in perfect condition, packed very well with wood all around it.

Needed durable furniture for a quest room that could be used by all ages. Shopped everywhere and only found ridiculous prices and poor quality UNTIL I shopped Amazon and found this South Shore Smart Basics Collection. I ordered nightstand, tv stand, head board and desk and I LOVE ALL of them. Sturdy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Value priced without looking cheap. The chocolate color is gorgeous. I was hesitant about having to put the furniture together as I had read some reviews where others found the assembly to be difficult and time consuming. NOT!! the instructions were quite clear, the pieces were fairly well marked so you knew what item went with which step in the assembly. Predrilled holes for the most part were not a problem. I must admit though that on this desk, the shelf that sits above the desk was problematic as the holes for the dowels for that upper shelf, were not large enough and not at all easy to bore out a bit. As it turns out, I didn't use the top shelf so the dowel situation wasn't a problem. I have a laptop and printer on the desk and use the slide out drawer to hold incidental items. Another winner from South Shore and Amazon, I am totally pleased.

While having a lot of time now due to Covid, I decided to redecorate my room by adding a desk which I’ve always wanted. It is very sturdy and very beautiful. At first the instructions were a bit disorganized, but once understood with the letters and numbers it is easy to put together. No heavy duty tools are required just a hammer, flathead screwdriver and a regular screwdriver . Pretty much you just have to find where to put the screws and it comes with separated parts so you don’t mix them up. It will take you about 1-2 hours. It’s worth the price if you are not looking to spend a huge amount of money and the size is perfect for small rooms. It looks better in person.

spacious, sturdy, affordable and doesn't take up a lot of space in what already feels like a small office these were the things that were top priority for me while shopping for a new desk for my office space. I don't have a big office by any means and felt a huge desk would be intimidating for people walking into my office, I wanted it to look classy yet inviting and this desk is perfect!!!! I love the upper shelf its perfect for a picture of my family and a plant! It is extremely sturdy the only down fall is having the patience to put it to put it together ( that is something I lack) I was thrilled when a co-worker offered to put it together for me, it took him less then an hour and I didn't hear any profanity what so ever!!! Instructions were clear and easy to ready, laid out step by step with all parts labeled. packing was lovely with minimal waste. I decided on the chocolate brown colour and it is beautiful!! drawers slide with ease and have ample amount of storage. when it comes to bang for your buck this desk gets top marks!!!!!

The box was very heavy and compact. The instructions had little to no words but were still fairly easy to dapifer. The desk is made of compressed wood with hard plastic overlaid to look like hard wood. It is not hi end quality but is a good desk.

One of the pieces was bent but I won't let that sully my experience with the desk too much, as it was an unimportant back piece no one sees. I love this desk so much, it was a great price and easy to assemble. Very sleek design and sturdy. I am actually pkanning to buy a few bookcases and a TV stand from Southshore because of the quality of the product. Fantastic!
